Improved Calendar Layout
July 24, 2024
Previously, Saturn’s home tab only showed you two events: what’s happening now and what’s happening next. This year, we’ve combined the Calendar and Now tabs to give you more visibility into your whole day/week. We also introduced “Day View” so you can pick between viewing your day as a running list (our traditional view) or visualizing the free time in between events.

Google Calendar Integration
July 14, 2024
Selfishly, we’d love to be the only calendar app students use, but for now, we recognize there’s value in integrating with an email-based calendar. Invitations from teachers, jobs, or other third parties are still sent via email. Last year, we heard from students that they were using two calendars to manage their time, which sounded pretty annoying. Now, you can link your Google Calendar to manage everything in one place. More integrations are coming soon!

Friendlier Event Invites: Alleviating Stigma Around Calendaring with Friends
May 27, 2024
Keeping up the momentum with core events updates, we’re releasing a whole new invitation flow this week.
Saturn has evolved a lot since we built our first event creation flow four years ago. Back then, we were mostly a personal calendar. Now, we’ve evolved into a calendar for you and your friends. More than 30% of our users interact with a friend on Saturn daily, usually to see when they are free.
In this week’s release, we updated our event invitation experience to support this emerging social behavior. On the surface, we made adding friends to an event easier by making it a primary part of the creation flow. But the real innovation lies in who you can invite and how they receive they receive the invitation.
Saturn meets you where your friends are: your phone. Saturn allows you to invite anyone from your phone contacts to an event via text, iMessage, Snap, or Instagram, which are much more casual channels than email. We believe the stigma around calendaring with friends on incumbent platforms like iCal and Google Calendar is rooted in email, rather than the calendar itself. This update is just the beginning - expect more fun event updates in the next few months!

Recurring Events: Expanding Beyond the Academic Day
May 15, 2024
This release is one of our biggest of the year: We’ve introduced recurring events!
Since high schoolers spend most of their day in class, Saturn’s spent the past few years hyper-focused on building the best features for those classes. We’re the first calendar app to support complex rotating schedules like this (high school schedules are crazy!!) and we’ve integrated tasks and chats. Now, we’re expanding beyond the academic day.
Students have now been begging us for more extracurricular features so they can keep using Saturn after class with their sports, clubs, and jobs. These events meet with a regular cadence — sports practices and rehearsals typically meet daily, and club meetings meet weekly. Previously, you’d have to add each instance one by one which was… painful, we know. Now, with a single tap, you can create every sports practice for the entire season!
Extracurriculars are also the more fun and social part of students’ days, so we’re excited to keep building social experiences on top of this foundation. Stay tuned for more on that!

All New Cal Compare with Friends
March 29, 2024
We’re excited to release the second version of Cal Compare, our most popular feature for sharing calendars with friends! Like everything we build at Saturn, Cal Compare is built for students’ lifestyles. As a student, real-time planning is common. You make plans to go to the dining hall, gym, or library just hours or even minutes in advance. The flexibility in your schedule and proximity to your friends enable this.
Cal Compare makes it easy to make these serendipitous plans. Your friends appear in a carousel alongside your own calendar on the home tab. You can easily glance everyone’s current status or tap on a friend to view their full calendar and message them to make a plan or wish them luck in their game.
In our initial rollout earlier this spring, we saw a 3x increase in calendar-comparing and a got a lot of enthusiastic feedback that’s we’re already incorporating!

Activity Center
December 14, 2023
This update is so simple but so important. This week, we’re excited to introduce the Activity Center, a central place for staying updated on all your activity on Saturn!
Over the past few years, Saturn has evolved from a solo-calendaring app for managing your class schedule into a social one that includes your friends, extracurriculars, and the broader campus community. With that, we have a lot more to notify you about. You get new friend requests, friends’ birthdays, event invitations, event updates like a time change or new RSVP, new comments on Bulletin posts, and more.
In recent feedback sessions with our thousands of high school ambassadors, we heard two problems that motivated us to build this: 1) You said you were missing some important notifications and 2) You said that receiving notifications in different places in the app was starting to clutter things. We want to keep Saturn simple and easy to use, so we prioritized building this feature as a solution. Now, everything goes to one place and you’ll never miss an update!

Bulletin Expands Beyond Events
November 13, 2023
This week’s update includes a LOT of additions to Bulletin, your home for sharing and discovering announcements with your school!
First, we’ve added two new post types: text and image posts. Since launching Bulletin in Spring, we’ve seen clubs at thousands of schools turn to Saturn to spread the word about events like Homecoming, sports games, tryouts, and recitals. But you told us that you had more to say than just events. With text and image posts, you can share fliers, photos, reminders, and simple updates with your school!
We’ve also added comments and reactions to bring your community together! Wish your friends luck in their game, celebrate their win, or ask a question.

Improving School Schedule Menus
October 23, 2023
We’ve revamped our schedule menu! Now you can easily preview any schedule before you elect to change to it, providing a more seamless and comprehensive experience.
Any given high school has various schedules that they follow throughout the year– whether that be one of the school’s primary schedules, a modified schedule (e.g. an early dismissal), or a unique day (e.g. an exam day). If Saturn is not showing you the right schedule for the day, you have an option to change your schedule locally on your device. Implementing the schedule preview allows you to more confidentially make a change and know exactly what schedule you’re choosing.
