Matt Jacobs Joins Saturn as VP of Engineering
August 14, 2024
Today, we are thrilled to announce the addition of Matt Jacobs as our VP of Engineering at Saturn. With a robust background in engineering leadership and an impressive track record in the consumer tech realm, Matt brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team.
Over the last 18 months, Saturn has grown our user base by 15x, and gone from supporting a few thousand high schools in the US to almost every high school in the country. With that scale comes a new set of operational and infrastructure challenges that we must tackle and solve as a team. Some of our most exciting and complex challenges exist on the Engineering side: our team is looking to continue building incredible features for our users, while also optimizing our platform for scale as we grow to serve every high schooler in the US. We’re working through a number of product investments, including building out our Android app, creating seamless ways to sync calendars, and adding user delights that turn Saturn from a simple scheduling app into the most powerful calendar for Gen Z.
Matt’s journey in engineering leadership spans over a decade. He co-founded Clarity Money, a personal finance management company that was acquired by Goldman Sachs in April 2018. While at GS, Matt continued to drive forward innovative consumer facing solutions around lending, savings, GS Invest and Apple Card. Following this experience, Matt went on to co-found Domain Money, a fintech business aimed at redefining the way people invest and manage their finances.
Engineering has always been at the core of Saturn’s culture, and we are excited to have Matt at the helm of our engineering team. Matt is poised to lead our software engineering team to support a more complex product with a significantly larger user base. We know that Matt’s prior experience designing and developing innovative products for consumers, as well as his deep understanding of how to lead growing teams, will help shape the future of our product and team.
On joining Saturn, Matt says:
"I'm a passionate engineer who thrives on solving challenges. The opportunity at Saturn is exceptionally rare—supporting our current user base combined with the opportunity of the entire US high school and college population presents a challenge few companies ever encounter. I am thrilled to collaborate with the broader Saturn team to enhance and enrich the lives of students, making their educational journey easier and more fulfilling."
Please join us in welcoming Matt to the Saturn family! We’re continuing to grow our team and hire across many roles at Saturn - please see our Careers page for more information on joining our fun and ambitious team.
